Perseverance Pays Poem
Appropriate for Individual and Group Settings.
- Download and enlarge to create a poster. Glue to cardboard backing.
- Download, place blank white paper over the 17 lines of the poem, leaving the title and the rainbow artwork visible. Make copies for later use.
- Announce that you have a special poem to share about perseverance.
- Ask if anyone knows what it is. Instruct kid(s) to get quiet and listen.
- Read title and poem aloud. Ask again what is perseverance.
- Ask if anyone present has ever felt like giving up. When? Why?
- Ask if anyone has ever shown perseverance. Applause for answers.
- Distribute copies made earlier and instruct kid(s) to write a poem or paragraph about how they did or would like to show perseverance.
- Invite volunteers to read their writing aloud. Display their work.

I’m Flying High with Ambitions!
- Make copies needed.
- Introduce activity by announcing that you’d like to fly to the moon!
- After the laughter at this attention-getter, say, "Well, it's an ambition!"
- Ask what the word ambition means. Discuss age-appropriately.
- Announce that you have an activity to fly high with ambition.
- Distribute and review activity page.
- Instruct child/children to complete the sentences and color the balloons.
- Spend extra time talking about "liking being me," to build self-confidence.
